Biography
Krawecka’s style is based on the painting and glazing techniques of old world European artists. She is inspired by Turner’s subtle treatment of light and space, Caravaggio’s dramatic use of tenebresco, Monet’s organization of tone and pattern, and the forceful energy of 19th Century Polish painters like Chelmonski, Gierymski and Kotsi. Thick and opaque paint, often applied with a palette knife, is combined with translucent glazes of thinner washes. As a child, the Polish-born artist moved from Krakow with her family to Kuwait on the Persian Gulf, where her parents worked as architects for nine years. Krawecka has continued to be a frequent and experienced international traveler. She attended Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) between 1989-1994, and participated in OCAD’s Off-Campus Program in Florence, Italy between 1992-1993. She has been exhibiting her work throughout Ontario since 1997. Her distinctions include an artist residency at the Pouch Cove Foundation, April 2004 and October 2007, and first prize at the Ontario Society for Artists Juried Show, Toronto, 2003
